NBI 4Oth Anniversary Celebration in Memphis!!!
The National Bar Institute (“NBI”) was incorporated June 17, 1982. For the past 40 years, the NBI served the National Bar Association (“NBA”) and the African American legal profession through education and action. In recognition of four decades of service to the NBA and legal profession, the NBI commemorated this special occasion by hosting a spectacular reception on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at the Memphis Renasant Convention Center.
The 40th Anniversary theme was “40 years of Serving the African American Community and Legal Profession through Education and Action”.

The celebration was attended by approximately 120 guests including three (3) Co-Founders of the NBI (Alice Gresham Bullock, Carolyn Y. Howard and Frank Seales, Jr.); the National Bar Association Past Presidents; NBI members; and other guests. During the reception, the NBI recognized the Co-Founders and presented them with a beautiful engraved classic mahogany finish Book Clock.
The NBI Board of Directors presented Dr. Walter L. Sutton, Jr., Chair of the 2021-2022 Board of Directors and the longest serving NBI Chair in the history of the organization with a special limited-edition serigraph by the renowned artist, Jacob Lawrence “Lawyers and Clients”.

The NBI Board of Directors extended its deepest appreciation to its loyal seventy-six (76) NBI Life Members in attendance at the reception with a Roma Tech Portfolio embossed with the NBI logo and 40th Anniversary inscription. All attendees at the reception received an engraved pen.

The NBI Board of Directors presented Sonya D. Hoskins, Chair of the NBI 40th Anniversary Committee with beautiful crystal desk accessories for her leadership and hard work for the 40th Anniversary celebration.
The 40th Anniversary Committee presented a special video reflecting on the NBI 40 years of history including recognition of deceased NBI Board Members Andrea Pair Bryant and Joseph H. Hairston.
The color décor for the reception was green and gold. The décor was prepared by Behind the Scenes.
The NBI served its guests delicious hors d’oeuvres, champagne and cider. The NBI 40th Anniversary celebration ended with a 40th Anniversary
Champagne Toast and the cutting of the 40th Anniversary Cake prepared by Frost Bake Shop.
